Map of Anderson Island
Tour of Anderson Island,
And Some Interesting Links
To help you plan your vacation here.

GETTING THERE: Use exit 119 off Interstate 5 (Near Fort Lewis, WA) and proceed west a few short miles to the small port city of Stilacoom on the shore of Puget Sound. Nearby you will find the ferry dock that will take you to Anderson Island. The ticket counter also serves as a small refreshment stand. As you come in, you will see 3 lanes to park in. Park behind the last car in line and walk down to purchase your ticket. If you see the ferry coming, walk faster!

ON THE ISLAND: Most any road will eventually lead to the store, deli, and gift shop, There are all kinds of things here, plus a real estate office. There are all sorts of interesting things to do on the island. Visit ANDY'S MARINE PARK where you can hike through the woods down to secluded Carlson Bay. There are several other parks also. Visit the lakes: Lake Florence and Lake Josephine. Visit the golf course, clubhouse, and a fine restaurant at the Riviera. Drive around the Island exploring and enjoying the scenery and wildlife (You will encounter lots of deer!).

Don't forget to visit the Historical Society Museum and Store at Johnson Farm.

While you're there, notice the many birds in the area. You'll see the Rufous Hummingbird, swallows, House Finches, Crossbills, Cedar Waxwings, and Jays. Of course, there are Robins, Warblers, and Flycatchers also. The pond is noisy with Red Winged Blackbirds, and there are also Wood Ducks, Hooded Mergansers, and Mallards there as well. Occasionally you may see a Kingfisher or a Great Blue Heron above the pond. In the fields you may see Goldfinches, Pine Siskins, Fox Sparrows and Towhees. You may even see White crowned Sparrows, Red-tailed Hawks, and Jays. If you're really lucky, you'll see a Bald Eagle! A fairly new sight is a pair of Ravens who have been seen flying over the treens near the farm. There are many other birds as well. We are blessed with bird life on Johnson Farm and the Island. Stop and listen! (from a brochure by Karen Parks)
